Event: David Francey is a Scottish-born Canadian carpenter-turned-songwriter, who has become known as one of Canada's most revered folk poets and singers (Toronto Star).  Born in Ayrshire, Scotland to parents who were factory workers, he moved to Canada when he was twelve.  For decades, he worked across Canada in rail yards, construction sites, and in the Yukon bush, all the while writing poetry, setting it to melodies in his head, and singing it to himself as he worked.

The fifth annual Creatively United for the Planet Festival takes place over two weekends this year - April 15/16 at Royal Bay Secondary in Colwood, and April 22/23 at the Royal BC Museum.

On Earth Day, Friday April 22nd from 7 to 10 PM, we'll be hosting internationally acclaimed artist/activist Franke James for an entertaining and enlightening talk entitled, "What Can One Person Do When 7.3 Billion are Frying the Planet?" The Jazz Studies department  is planning a tour to Vancouver Island in April and will be in Victoria on Tuesday, April 26, at Hermann's Jazz Club! The big band is led by Brad Turner, and the vocal Jazz Ensemble by Rejean Marois. We will be featuring our faculty as well as students. The Victoria Relay For Life Committee will be lighting up the Legislature Lawn on April 27, 2016, with luminaries of HOPE, in memory of those we have lost to cancer and in honour of those who are still fighting this deadly disease.

Come out to learn more about how you can join the fight against cancer in the Relay for Life and light a candle for someone special.

Luminaries will be sold from 8:00-8:30pm, to build our HOPE sign in front of the legislature, downtown Victoria BC.
