February 12-14

Celebrate Victoria's spirit, energy, and creativity during the Olympic Games at Livingcolours 2010 Spirit Spectacular, a three day festival in Centennial Square next to Victoria City Hall.  The fun begins Friday at 5:30 pm, with CTV's live coverage of the Olympic Opening Ceremonies on a giant screen.  Visit the interactive Canadian Pavillion and Kids Zone, relax in the Spirit Lounge, and enjoy the "Cirque"-style atmosphere of roving performers, live music by Bucan Bucan, and a dramatic fire performance finale by the Poi Pixies.  On Saturday from noon to 4 pm, the focus is on active fun for the whole family: Wii sports, snowboard demos, a LEGO City, giveaways, poetry, and Rock Island Ramblers and Outlaw Social on stage.  Sunday marks the start of the Chinese New Year with cultural dance and arts and crafts, including a community art project, from noon to 4 pm.  Come out for a spectacular weekend!

January 13 - February 28

In 2009, the Maritime Museum of British Columbia was the recipient of a generous donation of original artworks from the collection of Ralph and Angie Roberts.  The collection includes original paintings by internationally known artists such as Len Gibbs and Peter Ewart, three-dimensional works by renowned sculptor Martin Schaddelee, among many other artists represented.  This donation was made for the express purpose of helping the Museum raise much-needed funds through a sale of the collection; therefore, all items in the collection are offered for sale to the public.  A preview of the items is available on the website, and selected paintings are on sale at the Maritime Museum.  Please contact Kamala Paton (250-385-4222 ext 111, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. January 15 - February 27

This juried contemporary fine art festival is an exhibition of artwork by people who have experienced homelessness.  The gallery of their art is open Wednesday - Saturday from 11 am - 5 pm at 705 Johnson Street.  There is no cost to browse this amazing display of fine art.  All works will be available for sale and the artists recieve 100% of the proceeds.  This exhibition brings a better understanding of contemporary art, allows homeless people to express their opinions and experiences through art, and also is a remarkable display in its own right.

January 29; February 13 & 14

The Canadian Pacific Ballet is joining the Canadian Red Cross in supporting the victims of Haiti's earthquake disaster.  The artists, dancers, and company members have designated proceeds of the box office of their upcoming performance of "Konservatoriet - a Marriage by Advertisement" to be donated to the Canadian Red Cross's Haiti Relief efforts.  There will be a free in-studio rehearsal on January 29th from 5:30 - 6:30 pm - at Suite 41, 560 Johnson Street (Market Square, courtyard level).  Opening night at the McPherson Playhouse is February 13th at 8 pm; a 2 pm matinee will be held on February 14th in addition to the 7 pm performance.  To purchase tickets, contact the Royal & McPherson Theatre's Box Office, in person, online, or at 250-386-6121.

February 8 - 18

A show and sale of paintings and art-related wares acts as a fundraiser for the "Our Emily" statue of Emily Carr, daily from 11 am - 7:30 pm.  Held in The Library at the Fairmont Empress (opposite the gift shop).  Come browse, buy, listen to music and stories, meet the artists....

February 9 & 10
