Parade explores the relationship among a full spectrum of colours and shades in an abstract journey that for each canvas begins with no preconceived destination and evolves toward a point of harmony.  Artist Wendy Skog's works are a kind of wordless meditation transforming mind into matter and expressed as energy moving in space.  Parade opens with an event on Saturday night, April 28, from 7 - 9 pm.

Two artists, who both experiment with resin surfaces, have come together for this show at View Art Gallery.  Artist Ronan Boyle's collection of paintings entitled "Sky Burials" is a series based on images of an ancient Tibetan funeral ritual.  These images are juxtaposed with the newest collection by Jay Hanscom entitled "Rebel".  Jay presents a rebellious and romanticized history that often references the instruments of death in a modern and futuristic world.

Described as 'beautifully imperfect', Laura's paintings speak to an inner voice often ignored - with strikingly bold colours and texture, each one takes you on a journey that requires contemplation and offers discovery.  Mostly self-taught, Laura began painting in her teens.  With her draftsman father teaching her perspective and technique, he also encouraged freedom of expression.  Before becoming a 'serious' painter, Harris attended college and worked as a graphic designer, specializing in corporate identity.  In 2001, her successful design company gave way to her full time art career.  It is a very exciting time for Laura - with a run of successful shows and critical acclaim, she is continuing her journey with a strong sense of play, and refreshing confidence and flair.  "The work keeps getting deeper, more honest.  I continue to work on a piece until I feel it breathe on its own."

June 2 - 14

Local artist Steven Armstrong reveals his latest exhibition at West End Gallery.  A much-loved and -collected painter, Steven's primary goal is to capture the fleeting ephemeral beauty and transience of our wild West Coast landscapes.  He further delights in the challenge of creating images that express proper harmony and balance of composition, colour, tone and brushwork, transforming a static painting to one filled with life and motion.  To achieve this he utilizes different elements such as light, time of day, and the movement of shadows, all working together to direct the viewer's attention around the canvas.  Dramatic coastal scenes, camas in Garry Oak meadows, and lush forests each present their own dynamic sense of movement and place.  These moments, secured on canvas, ultimately reflect our own perceptions within nature's transitions.
